About

Accounting makes more sense when the numbers have a story.

Accounting Case Lab teaches accounting through practical cases: a realistic business situation, a problem to solve, the numbers, the journal entries and an Excel model you can work with.

Why cases

Most people learn accounting by memorising rules and then struggle to apply them to a real contract, a real loan or a real lawsuit. A case reverses that order. You start with the situation, you try to solve it and only then do you see the reasoning, step by step.

How every case works

  1. Read the story.
  2. Solve the problem before you see the answer.
  3. Check the solution: reasoning, calculations and journal entries.
  4. Use the Excel model and change the numbers yourself.

Who it’s for

Accounting students, junior and senior accountants, auditors, controllers, finance managers and CPA or ACCA candidates. Each case is labelled Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced.

The cast

Mike (CEO), Emma (CFO), Leo (junior accountant), Sarah (auditor) and Daniel (tax manager) appear across the cases, in different companies. They ask the questions real colleagues ask, and Leo makes the mistakes most of us have made.

What we cover

We start with IFRS Accounting Standards. US GAAP, audit, financial reporting, management accounting, tax and corporate finance will follow.
